  Soviet Union:   Japan:

Below are the concept sketches for my Soviet Unit. As I mentioned in the research blog post, I wanted to go for a wolf type creature so I began by trying to draw different canine head shapes and digitigrade legs which are common in werewolves. By this point, I didn't want to include a specific uniform but instead a print mark that would indicate its alliance.  For my  Japanese  Unit, I talked a little bit in my research blog post, about creating a spy unit. I started looking into old Japanese folklore. One of their mythical creatures is a kitsune, which is a symbol of good luck, protection and to ward off evil spirits. With this in mind, I wanted to create a phantom like creature who wears a kitsune mask. I sketched out a couple designs for the mask to use on my final design. 

Faction Research: Japan The Japanese forces have a common theme of using exoskeletons and ghost warriors as well as many forms of mech.    The Japanese Scorpion Light Walker particularly caught my eye. It is a mech in the shape of a scorpion, and the stinger aspect of the design is used as a turret. This particular unit looks to be more agile in combat due to its compact design. I think it is also a lot more stealthier as the mech stays low to the ground whilst the turret is placed a bit higher to aim at its targets. The general theme for Japanese units looks to prefer stealth and agility as ghosts are typically associated with not being spotted.  The main distinguishing aspect of this faction is its heavy use of metallic armour, mostly square shaped. Many of its miniatures use warm colours like gold, yellow and brown for the soldiers. Konflikt '47 seems to take a lot of inspiration from Japanese anime and other sci-fi concepts to create these designs.  The Japanese ...
